Pros: 1) I’m used to their platform. It seems simple. 2) Trade Vanguard funds at no charge Cons: 1) We have had a dispute over $2,500 for almost a year without being able to get it resolved. Vanguard continues to tell us what we did wrong and we can’t get anyone to listen long enough to get them to investigate from our pov 2) System seems slow and is frequently down 3) Numbers always settle in Vanguard’s favor

If you have 500k in Vangusrd funds, then the first 25 trades in a year are free, and only $2 per trade after that. So, index your first half million or so, and then trade.

Well organized Web site. Their mutual fund expense fees are among the lowest in the industry. They do not charge commissions on the purchase/redemption of their funds or ETF’s and commissions on external funds, stocks and ETF’s are competitive with other on-line brokers. Calls to customer service are answered promptly and professionally.

I didn’t realize that after 25 trades the rate jumps up to $20! You can get up to 25 trades pretty quickly so Vanguard is just too expensive. I’m looking at my options for 2011 now.
