A significant portion of the US electricity grid runs on natural gas. As a result, stock market investors as well as natural gas investors/companies like to keep an eye on the energy market as a whole and natural gas in particular as an indication of the US economy.
The following chart presents natural gas futures live for today. A 5-day and 21-day (there are typically 21 trading days in one calendar month) version are also included for perspective. The charts use one minute data (two minute data is used for the 21 trading day chart) and provides prices as long as natural gas futures contract is open for trading. Trading opens Sunday through Thursday at 6:00 p.m. EST and closes Monday through Friday at 5:00 p.m. EST with a 1 hour trading halt from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m EST.
