The definition of ex-dividend is without dividend. Therefore, the ex-dividend date is the first day that a buyer of a stock will not be entitled to that stock’s most recently declared dividend payment. However, an investor that sells their stock on the ex-dividend date will be entitled to the most recently declared dividend.
